the piglets are here!!!!!!
« on: January 23, 2011, 09:26:28 am »
our sow 'big bertha' was due on thursday but held on until 5pm on friday when she gave birth to 11 gorgeous babes! we unfortunatly lost the runt over night due to B's fat a** squashing him i think! :-\

this has been a special litter for me as its my first proper litter!when we bought Bertha she was in pig and had 7 (her 1st litter)2 months after we got her..but this time i own the boar and her,put them together and 3 months 3 weeks and 4 days later....
:pig: :pig: :pig: :pig: :pig: :pig: :pig: :pig: :pig: :pig: :pig:

as if that wasn't enough though, our other maiden gilt 'DOLLY' was showing signs of being in pig but i'd never seen her covered, she was looking a little podgy but not much so i thought maybe a month or so to go...oh no..she had them saturday dinner time! :o..12!!!!!! but 2 were still born and 2 were tiny and were lost very quickly,so 8 babes left! this was a huge suprise as you can imagine, she was still in with Perky the boar and he was fine, now in her own pen suckling away! what a great weekend though apart from the lost ones..always a shame, could anyone tell me is it as i suspect and theres nothing you can do about these losses, just keep sows as healthy as possible and house them correctly etc..???

We had 12 very spotty GOS on Saturday night 10 born between 9pm & 10.30pm and then 2 much later at 12.30 midnight. Clover is being a great mum after initially being upset by them(she's only a gilt). Will try to post a picture later.
So congratulations Miss piggy to you & bertha too.
