Manian,

Pigs suffer from what is called "transient pain" - that is they respond to a pain stimulus,  and then revert to normal.

Think of tagging as an injection you might have, yes you know it will have an initial sting, but after you don't spend the next hour rubbing your arm - it is done then over!

Do it whilst they're eating - quick and easy !

It'll be fine,

I remember being really nervous before I did it last year but the the pigs hardly noticed.  They were far more interested in the food ;D ;D

Helencus & Littlemisspiggy: are they metal tags? In which case it's like using a stapler. When tagged, the pigs may shake their head a bit thinking something has stung them, and every now and then there's a teeny weeny bit of blood, but that's all. Once you've done the first one you'll be fine ever after!

I obviously used too much elbow power when I slap marked ours last year because the boys were VERY miffed and wouldn't let me near them for 4 days afterwards!!!!
