wanted: young dog
« on: January 12, 2011, 11:27:15 am »
A friend is looking for a puppy or young dog to replace her labradoodle which died recently in his sleep after a long and happy life.  She already has a mature gold lab and would prefer a whippet or a cocker but can't afford the pedigree puppy prices.  She also has cats and ponies so ideally one young enough to socialise with other animals or already familiar with cats at least.  She is at home most of the time, her kids are used to animals about so the dog won't be left all day, and her oldest daughter is a vet in the Milton Keynes/Leighton Buzzard area so could probably arrange transport up to Perthshire on her next visit as well as doing any neutering or vaccinations required ;) if there isn't something suitable more locally :)

She's keeping an eye on the rehoming centres and breed rescues but I thought I'd post on here in case anyone had an unsold pup or knew of anyone looking to rehome a young dog?

You could suggest they try phoning Whitehill kennels (near dunfermlin) or Union farm(near cupar), these are the pound kennels for fife, and often need to find homes for dogs that have had 7days and have not been claimed by their owners.
having worked for 3 years in a rehoming kennels, i know how stressed they can get, and just how many breeds come in as strays.

Thanks, she's now found a dog and hopes to have him home on Monday - springer x I believe.

I might contact the Cupar place and see if they need any volunteer dogwalkers occasionally to get me out and about a wee bit..
