iv had this trouble in past, but we had whole pigs cured so didnt have any uncured meat to check. i would change butcher. i cant really stomach lamb, cos i can still "smell" the sheep, after handling/shearing them etc and it puts me off.
what exactly is taint? is it just an off-putting smell?

Taint also gives the meat a rather unpleasant taste which few would tolerate eating.

It smells just like urine (further explanations above). If you're one of those who can smell it, it will definitely put you off.

Feeding grains (or straights) will increase the ratio of polyunsaturated fats and inflammatory omega 6s.

Grasses and green vegetables maintain a better level of monounsaturated fats and omega 3.

Not sure you'd be able to detect the difference by taste though.  And I'm not sure what sow nuts contain; I've always assumed there'd be some straights and the dreaded soya.

If you buy bags, it says on the label on the side of the bag what's in them.

I've just had a look, and I wish I hadn't  :'(  GM soya for a start  :'(

I've been boiling barley with linseed, which smells gorgeous.  But having been doing it ever since the piglets began eating, I decided to give myself a rest.  They get sugarbeet shreds to balance the grains.  I think I'll just have to give them straights and carrots when they're a bit older and move to an area of heather and scrub.
