Long term grazing?
« on: March 08, 2025, 05:06:35 pm »
Is there such a thing as a long term grazing contract?

One of our local farmers has leased 56 hectares of land to a solar panel company for 40 years. Previously used to graze young cattle and grow silage. Needless to say the company are saying that they are going to graze sheep under the hundreds of solar panels but are very vague on the details. There are a lot of solar farms around here and I have yet to see a single sheep grazed under or around the panels.

One of our neighbours is proposing a planning condition. He thinks there should be a long term grazing contract in place before the solar farm is built so that the developers have to make good on their promise.

I have only come across yearly grazing contracts in the past. Does anyone know anything about long term contracts?
