Hi,

We got our first Guernsey Goats in March, a four year old and a one year old. We noticed lice quite early on and on advice of the previous owner gave them each 5ml of Spot On, then again six weeks later. The lice didn't go away so we spoke to the vet who suggested applying it again two weeks later. It's now been over a week since then and although the lice have reduced they are still present, especially near the tail of the older goat in the thick hair. The goats are scratching reasonably regularly so it's obviously bothering them.

We are going to call the vet again today, but I wanted to see if anyone can give any advice on where we may be going wrong, as I have seen positive comments on here about the effectiveness of Spot On, so we're unsure why it's not working.

We did also try DE powder at one point but found this gave them awful dry, flakey skin.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It would also be helpful to know if we can expect to eradicate the lice completely or will they always have some?

I don't keep goats but have used injectable noromectin on pigs to get rid of lice, with success.

Hi - In my experience spoton doesn't work. We use eprinex pouron - repeated 2 weeks later. It is expensive but effective.
