Hi everyone!

Hello everyone!

Very new to this smallholding joy (been all things equine up to now), inherited some land that needed a lot of clearing, and as of yesterday became the very proud and excitable owner of 5 registered pedigree Shetland ewes. No idea what to do with them yet, they are currently employed in keeping the bramble at bay, but am toying with the idea of breeding a few for our freezer and/or sale. Wisdom and suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome to TAS - from  :sunshine: Carnoustie
We don't breed sheep anymore, but in the day, bred Coloured Ryelands but had a few Shetlands too. Great wee sheep - good choice for a beginner. We also had black Bluefaced Leicesters. And taht's all I'm saying.
Good luck with your smallholding and yoru sheep. You might want to check out the website articles about sheep. Click the LIVESTOCK button above,

Welcome CloverBee, (love that name  :) ),  hope you enjoy your smallholding.
Just watch the sheep with those brambles, esp when fully fleeced, they can get tangled up and not be able to escape.
Look forward to hearing your exploits  ;D
