Wimbledon, do you follow it?
« on: July 16, 2023, 07:15:20 pm »
I ask as I used to. Currently doing my washing and reading the news online and I was curious as to who had won only to find it was still going on. Turned tv on and No 1 seed had beat Novak, yay!

Years ago, I was On holiday on Shell Island and we were watching our 4 inch tv and Agassi with long hair win! I remember watching Goran & Henman playing that semi match hoping that Goran would win. He then went on to do another whopping match against Rafter and win.

Steffi? We always used to watch when she was playing. The older players, Stefan Edburg, Becker, Michael Stich, Sabatini, Martina etc, they were always good to watch. (Never actually watched McEnroe.)

We stopped watching here when the grunters and screamers appeared, Seles and that Blonde who I can't recall the name.

It was Sharapova!

I take a passing interest until Andy Murray gets knocked out, but don't watch any of it.

It gets some coverage here, until all the French players have been knocked out. The Tournament at Roland Garros gets a fair bit of coverage obviously. The important part of the title is the French OPEN, which means foreigners can enter and win. In my sport of clay pigeon shooting they have just finished the four day Universal Trench championship, but to be declared Champion of France you must be of French Nationality when you registered your entry. There is a separate category for foreigners. No prize money either, it's a strictly amateur event.

I have watched the end of the last set at Wimbledon, which was a complete fluke because it was on when I changed channel.

It annoys me that in July, when I have finished my chores and fancy a few moments peace with a cuppa, I can't find a channel that doesn't have sport or old reruns!
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

Totally agree!

We have a you view box downstairs but other than that the tvs all run on Freeview only and to be honest, sod all is on! Sister next door has paid for super super duper broadband and runs Amazon Prime, Netflix and most probably any thing else that she or hubby would want (they all have the latest smartphones, smart watch, tablets etc meaning the router has to have the best connection to put up with all of that.)

Old houses mean blackspots re router or mobile signal and we have been known to watch tv, get to a good part and then the bloody screen goes black as signal has been lost, and thats progress. In the past we'd shoot to the tv and try and make the snow less snowy!

But to turn the tv on and Olympics, Football, Cricket, Motorsport, Coronation etc on EVERY channel is ridiculous!

In this last year or so I have just got into Silent Witness so box is recording it on Drama and I usually watch an episode a day, though at the moment I am watching Castle, also recorded as we have only just been able to get channel 50!

(Blackspots? My mobile is 02, Mum is Talkmobile (Vodafone), due to Epileptic dog I bought a smartphone, just been replaced and upgraded and that runs 2 payg sims, 1P (Orange) and Asda (Vodafone). All of our phones can be put side to side and the signals vary. Mum can be sitting still, on her phone, then it goes dead as the signal has been cut off. Sister in NZ has accused her of moving many a time yet the phone is wedged on the table!)

Only just seen this thread but yes I am a big tennis fan.  Agree about grunters and screamers. Sad that Roger F retired (prob the most graceful ever) but everyone has to some time. Never been a fan of Djokovic though. Too arrogant. So glad that Alcaraz won Wimbledon this year.
