Eaml2 -> Pig Hub -> Quarterly visits
« on: February 20, 2023, 10:08:42 am »
Hi all,

We have our first wieners in place, and were busy at the weekend getting them registered with a heard number.   But hit a slight snag....

So we went from the AHDA web site and got our heard number, and then went over to the EAML2 to get registered there, then came across in the registration form, Q BD.1.6.....

"Please confirm that you have an up to date Quarterly Veterinary Statement"

Is this correct for smallholders, that they have to be inspected every quarter by a vet?

None of the other smallholders or the breeder who supplied us with our pigs know anything about this.   Seems a lot of admin (and cost) for a couple of pigs.

Can somebody confirm please?

Confused - why were you on eAML2? It is only for registering a movement of pigs eg from your holding to slaughter or to another holding. The person who you bought the weaners from would (should!) have completed a movement form before they sold them you and they moved off their holding onto yours. There is nothing for you to do now until you either send your pigs to slaughter or sell to another person.

Ah - gotcha.   So EAML2 only needed for movement to slaughter house.
Thanks.
But... when we do, we will still be hit with this question.

Just mark it as NO. As far as I am aware small scale pig keepers do not need quarterly vet inspections. We've never had any! This question may be aimed at commercial units.

If in doubt you can always ask your chosen butcher for advice.

If someone isn't registered on the eaml2 system when they buy pigs the person setting up the licence will put a limited amount of information into the system about the purchaser to set up the move. The purchaser will need to go back on to a. complete the movement (if not using another method) and b. register themselves on there with a username and password. Eaml2 sets up various movements not just to another holding or to slaughter but to a market or a show for example.

The question about a quarterly vets inspection was added after brexit. It is a requirement for pigs that are sold into Europe. It isn't a problem selecting "no" for animals going to into your freezer.
