after princess piggy bemoaning about this essential piece of attire i thought i would start a thread          having used nora wellies for almost 40yrs they do as they advertise, slip resistant(when new but not so good when well worn) however being PVC or some combination they are cold in the winter and you sweat in the summer, also the calf width appears somwhat neat, used to wear two pairs of trousers with plenty of room now with two pairs on they are decidedly tight to the point of virtually stopping the circulation and now with them costing £40 an alternative had to be found i have never had any problems with them splitting, only when the pups chewed the tops of lillians. on the other hand have always split  always at the same part  (misshaped bones) hunters are crap, to expensive, cold and you slip. argyles are the same i now have a pair of saddelcraft neoprene lined with side zip to accommodate the bat fastard legs and at £25 ish bloody fantastic warm feet unless you stand for an hour without moving can get them on without any effort and they are as good slip wise as noras and don't fall of your feet. i think i am right in saying they are similar to gumleaf wellies but they cost £70. never tried aigle or le chemeau and at £200+don't think i will either. the saddelcraft wellies are so good lillian is wanting a pair and as she never expects or demands anything i know there are some who can't wear wellies especially the wider  calf  people but we don't all have shona spirkle legs and the manufacturers are needing to rethink this one, the rest is up to you to add your comments

Well i LOVE my Muck boots have the same pair for over three years; they are warm and exceedingly comfy so much so, that after removing them and putting on my hiking boots i could feel every pebble but not one in the wellies. They have not split and even though a pig has chewed through the outer layer they have not leaked and the sole has worn really well plenty of tread left after heavy use every day.

I have a pair of Country Estate wellies i use for rock fishing. Look a bit like Hunters, but a lot cheaper.

Not very well insulated, but i use them with neoprene socks, so warm toes all round.

They're starting to perish where the upper meets the soles, but for less than £20 & lasting 3 years, you can't really go wrong.

my many pairs of hunters (£60) seemed to split above the ankle/shin where they flexed. my new rather pretty sherwood forest ones have split right near the sole after 4 mths, i do wear them everyday but at £35 id expect them to last longer. my hiking boots (£75) were great but rather heavy, and its quite muddy here so really need wellies. i did get a cheap pair of gaitors to wear with shorter boots, but are great but bit mucky to zip up when sludgy. tried a cheap pair of wellies from b&q but could feel every bloody stone through the sole. also have chunky calfs (and chunky calves lol) so did get pair of mens argyle boots that lasted 2 years of walking a gsd! but slightly embarassing to ask for mens boots cos fat legs and big feet!!  :-[   my kids wellies seem to split too, especially if they are patterned and pliable. really do hate wet feet!! >:( >:( >:(
we should do a poll to find which boots are best cos need some new ones very soon!  ;)

great idea, "must have" clothing isnt always the most expensive (thank god) i certainly get mad when what i buy is rubbish. i havnt gone as far as getting a farmer all-in-one yet, but tempted after trying to dry loads of wet jeans in winter, or going to the school stinking of sh***! years ago i spent £125 (in sale!!!) for toggi winter jacket and wore it for years, was actually really good, except the zip toggles all broke off in 1st few months, flipping pain do it up. my current horseware jacket rips just looking at piece of barbed wire or anything else it sees. my neighbours must think im ragamuffin, but its got life in it yet! and its not quite a scary as my shin-length army jacket and russian hat!!
closest we got to t in park, is driving past on way to get rabbits and chickens from south, looked good from main road tho!

i lived in hunter wellies as a teenager they lasted forever, best wellies ever, not sure what has happened to them but a couple of winters ago i went through two pairs in one winter both split in the same place, will never buy them again, i like the snug snow boots from derby house, got two pairs for the price of one in the spring sale at the begginning of the year, i have cosy toes

I normally buy Dunlop Pricemaster boots http://www.easy-wellies.co.uk/dunlop-wellington-boots-pricemastor-p-297.html?cPath=84    But it would seem they only go up to size 6 at the moment . They last ok ish , about 3-4 months , but I do walk 6 miles everyday on the road  in them ! The soles just wear out on them .
Somebody bought me a pair of cheap green wellies the same as I used to get , and although they last much longer , they have pvc soles , the right one creases me just under the ankle bone , and the left one across the toes. It was the same with the ones I used to buy , that's why I changed to the dunlop ones.
Can't afford more than about a tenner for boots so not much choice really .

cheers
