Homemade organic weedkiller
« on: December 09, 2010, 06:21:39 pm »
Found this in an old Country Smallholding magazine. Please note it is non-selective ie will kill all plants. I'm going to use it next year on paths.

4 litres of distilled vinegar
225g household salt
15ml detergent OR 1 litre of white or cider vinegar
120ml lemon juice concentrate or juice of one lemon plus 1 teaspoon of salt.

It's basically mild acid. It only lasts a few minutes in soil as it naturally oxidises. Any residue is either harmless or useful to plants.

I will try that too but I think I will do it like this:

5 litres of distilled vinegar
225g household salt
15ml washing up liguid

I don't see the point of the other stuff as you say it's just a mild acid. It will only make it slightly more expensive. Anything to get away from all the glyphosate I'm buying now. Thanks for the tip.
