Yes subject orf again, seems a lot about this year?
Now have a ewe with all round her mouth swollen and sore. Been bleeding.
Tried Daz, didnt help, Sprayed with purple spray yesterday, as with Daz she was licking it off straight away.
Wondering if Sudocrem would soothe rather than drying it up? Or would it extend/aggravate the infection?
Read someone put cold sore cream on and it worked, any thoughts?
Ewe has triplets on, I'm feeding her as much as she wants, she's on good grass, but as only previous case was a poor do-er lamb, I'm wondering if being a bit under par makes them more susceptable?


Also how do you know if there is secondary infection? Im tempted to give her a P&S shot as prevention?

Loads of home cures out there daz / dettol / waste oil /iodine /salt solution / herbal , blue spray ( teramycin ) better than purple  every day and penicillin every day for really bad orf which is your description . Oily creams can work but take time and please remember you can catch ORF

Husband has just phoned from feed merchants, tubs of Orf cream on the counter, half price, nearly out of date.  Thats what she'll get this evening.

A jab of anti inflammatory would be a good idea too.

I would also think a jab of Metacam/Loxicom as well as a shot of AB's would be helpful for her. The metacam will also cheer her up a bit.


And yes feeding triplets will make her much more susceptible to all sorts of infections - do you have a mineral/vitamin drench that you can give her?

If you give the vet a ring, they should be able to dispense you a single dose, and some antibiotics at the same time for the secondary infection.


I have never bothered putting anything topical on the sores other than a spray of blue spray (but to be honest this doesn’t stay on long), but do use brinnicombe Frobut buckets which seem to control the outbreak, and allow natural immunity to build up.
