Hi from The Isle of Lewis
« on: November 28, 2010, 08:40:13 pm »
Hello everyone. :)
We have a croft on the Isle of Lewis.
We have a few sheep and are hoping to increase our flock next year. Two ewes have been to the tup and we have a couple of lambs that will be tupped next year.
We had two crossbred pigs, Berkshire/Oldspot crosses, that have now taken up residence in the freezer.
We also keep around 50 hens and four turkeys.
We spent most of last year trying to improve our croft, which had suffered years of neglect. Its hard work, but we are getting there!

Hello and welcome from Lanarkshire.

We keep Hebridean sheep and chickens, and my sister lives in Garabost on the Isle of Lewis, so we have some mutual points of contact.  Good luck with your renovations - we've all been there at times.

Hello and welcome from north Wales.  Its freezing and well below zero, but I wouldn't mind betting its not as cold as it is where you are right now!!  All the best.

Hello and welcome from South Lanarkshire.  Are your sheep Hebrideans too?

Many thanks for the welcome. :). Although its freezing here, we seem to have escaped the worst of the snow.
The sheep that we have at present are Blackface's, which are ideally suited to the conditions here. We also have Texel/Cheviot crosses. We have Hebrideans on our wish list! I spent some of saturday helping a friend clip his hebrideans feet and was surprised how easy they were to handle, compared with our blackface's. Also on our wish list for next year is a milking cow, so any suggestions will be gratefully received!

To bump the Hebs higher up your wish list, have a look at our website : www.scothebs.co.uk  They are so beautiful, hardy and ideal of course for Lewis.

What about a Shetland cow for milking?
