Help urgently needed, a neighbour was looking after my small flock for a few days and told me the ram was lamb so he injected with footvax. I offered to pay for it and he said its OK its been in fridge for 6 weeks as he only used 1 dose.Iwas a it shocked but did not want to offend him as he was helping me in an emergency.
Is this going to harm the ram please, and many thanks.

Is the ram ok now? No adverse effects or abscesses? I doubt it being opened already would cause a problem but I'd be peeved that I now wouldn't be able to ever use a 1% Cydectin wormer on him if required (https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?threads/cydectin-injection-footvax.80372/) and would probably declare it when the time came to sell him on. Good luck :)

the instructions for footvax state that it is effective for 24hours after opening - if that assists

The only worry will be the possible abscess , (footvax is oil based emulsion ) which can be quite large  ,this is why the injection goes high up the neck  ,so no damage to valuable meat   ,often at shearing the abscess is cut off

it can be a nasty absess - perhaps though, as the vaccination was so old it might not have been effective and therefore no reaction may have occurred

Injected with foot vax because lamb?   That is rather worrying and shows a complete misunderstanding of vaccines......   sounds like neighbour needs to learn more about sheep and lameness and to check problem before giving appropriate medication.    (your ram should be fine.

Don't wrestle with pigs, they will love it and you will just get all muddy.

Footvax can be used to treat footrot as well as prevent it. But why someone would do that to a sheep that’s not theirs is really odd. I’d not be happy if that was my sheep. There are more appropriate medicines to use than a vaccine as everyone else has said.
