Retractile testicle ?
« on: October 08, 2021, 07:51:50 pm »
Hello everyone!

I have a dilemma regarding our teasing ram. He was born this spring and, as he was a strong healthy lamb, we decided to keep him entire to be the next teasing ram. When I checked him back then, I recall seeing 2 descended testicles.
As the breeding season is approaching, we had the vet coming to perform a vasectomy on this young ram. Surprisingly, the vet only found one descended testicle and could not carry on the procedure... So, he cannot be used as a teaser, unfortunately.

My question is, is this actually possible? Could one of the testicles ascend back in the abdomen after a while and never descend in the scrotum again? Have you ever encountered such a situation before? Thanks.

Yep, he’s a rig, the other testicle is probably right up in his abdomen. Best to treat him as a ram in the meantime (I.e away from ewes) and put him in the freezer.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, that`s what I`ll do.
Looks like I choose the wrong guy as a teaser  :-[
