Light brown scour -fresh grass or cocci?
« on: June 28, 2021, 08:15:35 am »
Good morning! One of my lambs (7 weeks old) has light brown scour. She seems absolutely fine, boing about etc...
I know she's in the risk age for cocci, but it doesn't look or smell like it. She's the only lamb that escapes the electric fence and got on to fresh grass before the others. I've given rumen stimulant but she's still scouring. Is there anything else I could try to dry her up? They are wormed and heptovact. Thanks in advance 🤞

Take a sample to the vet for them to look at under a microscope. Cocci doesn’t smell. Could be she’s eaten something or could be cocci/worms.

Thank you. I'll do that this morning. Our vets are often slow at getting back with results (3 days last time). Can I do anything for her in the meantime?

Good quality (chelated) minerals can help to prevent grass-induced scours so may help to dry her up.  But if it's grass-induced, it will dry up of its own accord pretty quickly anyway.  Just tidy her up if she's mucky behind if you can to stop the fresh poop attracting blowflies ;)

Results came back quickly this time, high burden of rounds worms. So I've wormed her again and dagged her and washed her. Hopefully she'll get better soon...

Did you recently worm her? And if so, did you use the same wormer? If the answer to both questions is yes, you could have wormer resistance. Do another egg count in a couple weeks to check if the worms are dead
