Hi all,
My 3 Romney yews and 3 yearlings have been breathing a fair bit heavier in the past few days. They were clipped in mid March, but since the weather has warmed so has their breathing fastened. I've so far just put this down to the increased heat, however I can't remember them being like that last year and I've been pondering if anything else could be affecting them. They have plenty of shade and fresh water daily.
When they breathe fast they exclusively breathe through their nose and one can visibly see their bellies expanding/contracting which is quite noticeable.
They are on rather lush grass at the moment, and I thought maybe they are too busy eating and causing themselves to be short of breath?
Flies are also waking up and although I've crovected them and applied spot on earlier today, they are still being bothered by something which is causing them to drop their heads at times, similar to the clinical signs of nasal bot fly. Could the annoyance caused by flies be increasing their breathing?
Of course this could be perfectly normal behaviour considering the increase in temperatures recently and so I could be over-reacting.
