Anyone seen this before? I haven't got the lambs in yet, but a pair of twins (4 weeks old today, well grown) have suddenly both turned lame on the left front foot. I saw one a couple of days ago lifting the foot, but still racing round with her mates, but today both of them are definitely lame on that foot. The knee joint does not look swollen, and so far none of the other lambs are affected. The foot/claw does look a bit swollen, I will bring them in later today to check for heat etc. I do not think it is joint ill as such, though probably still a bacterial infection quite similar.
Is Alamycin LA the best AB to treat? Does it need repeating in 3 days time? Would you give anti inflammatories as well (I have metacam here and can weigh the lambs)? (With the goats I normally give AI's/painkillers routinely for treating anything that requires AB's).
I have never seen lambs this young lame, and not sure of this is something to do with their dam? They were born outside during the day, penned up and sprayed quickly. Don't think there was any delay in getting colostrum, the ewe has lambed before.
