Any downside to registering for a CPH number

I'm a relatively new small holder. Currently horses, chickens and veg. Considering some lambs which would mean needing a CPH number.  Is there any downsides to having one?

If you have any animals (except equines and domestics)you have to have one. So if there are any downsides it's immaterial

I have not found a downside to having a CPH number. As Doganjo says, you will not be able to buy or move any lambs without it. :sheep:

We applied for a CPH before we had lambs. We just declared 'none' when we applied. Wasn't until we declared any that we had a visit and then we were classed as only needing a visit even 3 years. We already had chickens, but below the number that required registration- 50 I think? So there are no downsides HD.

Hi Possum

Once I knew about it before I got my sheep I found it to be a pretty straightforward process, although I wasn't expecting it to be! No hassle and they were actually really helpful when I phoned. And yes you can't have sheep without one. They gave me advice re moving sheep/flock book etc etc and what to do if I needed any spare ear tags.  No downsides so far...... :fc:
