[The sheep whisperer]

Hi , does anyone have any experience in conservation grazing of council land ?
It’s open to the public , but is well fenced , I would need to use electric fence to strip graze the site.
Obviously have concerns over dogs/ people attacking animals , vandalising fences etc.
This would be for sheep and over a limited time period....any thoughts or information ,opinions would be great

Well they’ve asked to have them enclosed in an area within the total area , and me move them about , it’s a big site?
And it may help keep public away I guess !

Open to the public would be a total no go for sheep grazing. Not worth the risk of a dog attack. I have enough trouble keeping dogs out of private properly that borders a footpath

Lots of national trust farms have sheep grazing with footpaths ..... sheep are very used to seeing dogs and walkers though ....  lambs learning from mums.   I wouldnt put sheep not used to this into this situation ..... scared sheep run ..... dogs clock the running and chase.

Too much agro for me .... but guess would work for some graziers

The Shepherd on the farm my grandfather was brought up on had spent many years keeping sheep on Hyde Park in London.

I'm sure he would have been fascinating to speak to and apparently the issues of keeping sheep in a public park were the least of the interest - George Bernard Shaw, Kier Hardy and the Webbs used to come  for discussions!

(admittedly, it's unlikely that your grazing on council land would lead to similar friendships but you never know...........)
