Sick duck
« on: November 06, 2010, 03:49:46 pm »
One of my Aylesbury ducks has started sitting down when she walks and can't get up again for a while.  i have picked her up and checked her for being egg-bound and she seems fine.  her feet have gone really speckeldy but aren't swollen.

Any ideas?

I hope she'll recover. One of mine had similar symptoms and she did get better. I remember that her breathing was laboured as well, so it was probably a cold. When it is around freezing or colder they all respond in a similar way. Good you can pick yours up to check her over! :&>

I have had to put one of my youngsters from a late hatch in the ' maternity ward' today . She has picked up well on a bit of TLC but dont know how she will go back to free range this time of year . Mother Nature thinning out the weak for winter me thinks. It is odd how we think we can do better than her, we never win.
