Kilner jars -what to buy?
« on: July 17, 2020, 06:32:25 am »
I'd like to buy some good jars for pickling.  Have looked at the Kilner website but I'm still none the wiser. Should I get the clip lid ones or the ones with the two part lid? Do I need wax seals as well?

Or is there a better brand? Or could I just use old jam jars?

Grateful for any tips  :sunshine:

If you want to ferment things like cabbage (to make Sauerkraut) the clip-top jars are best - but I get mine from Ikea rather than Kilner... if you want to pickle then normal jam jars should be ok, as longs as the lids are not rusty and have a rubber coating, That's what my undertanding is...

I had screw on lids and they became rusty when I used them for beetroot.

What a shame Sabrina.  I've read some people use wax or paper circles to stop that from happening, but I don't really understand it all!

where can I get screw rings for old kilner jars?
