Eggs without shell
« on: June 18, 2020, 02:00:34 pm »
One of our hens (6months old) has started to lay shell -less eggs. Up to now it has produced entirely normal ones. There has been no change in diet ( small holder range layer pellets) and all the others are producing normal eggs. I can not identify the particular hen and am making an assumption it is the same one because they are always laid away from the most popular nest box that they all use.
Is this something that I should ignore? Earlier POL hens I have had began laying with odd shaped and sometime shell-less eggs but that stopped pretty quickly

It could be either:
  • they are young
  • they have not enough calcium in they diet
  • they have internal parasites

I would suspect internal parasites since you said you haven't changed their diet recently
