When I send a parcel to my friend in Ballina, Co Mayo.  I put the address  AND her phone no on the front and back of the parcel.  When an parcel goes by courier, the driver only tries twice to deliver, if they cant find the address, they return it to the sender.  She has had phone calls for directions as her house is quite remote.  I always put senders address on letters and parcels too.  I hope this has been helpful to you.  I am in Scotland and quite rural and people cant find us either. lol  What part of eire are u in.

The bingo there is good.  I go to Ballina for hols.  My school friend, Sadie married a great fellow from Ballina.  My father came from Bailieboro, Co Cavan.  I have realtions in and around Dublin.  I just love Ireland.  I may retire there when the time comes.  I am on facebook.  And have a few Friends im Mayo, Kiltimagh abd around.  Have a wee look and see.  Good Luck to you anyway.  You shall enjoy the life and the craic.

Hi
Ihave lived in Southern Ireland for nearly ten years now and live in the middle of nowhere. All you need to do is find out where your nearest post office is and go along and explain to them where you live :-) Sounds simple, but it works!!

Thanks for all the replies . A big thank you to Ron as we did think about the local post office which is in knock, but the miffing part was the no postcode system. Unless Mr.postie (who I'm sure will be called Sean btw) and ours is called Jason atm. Even using the force will not aid his quest on finding a white cottage in this village.

No doubt,he/she will ask the people next door and that's nice thinking, but some people don't like their job though,so i just was'nt sure what the method is.

Many Thanks again,

Hope to meet some of you soon ,

Andy

Hi Andy,
as someone who has lived in rural Ireland all my life I can assure you that the mail will get to you !
It amazes me that it always does, our small local village has 4 people with the exact same names.... no house numbers, no post codes.... the letters seem to get to the right people all the time...... just to prove a point, send me you full name and Irish address.... I will send you a bill for 50 euro and if you dont receive it you dont have to pay me....OK !!
By the way, the Government have implemented a post code system for southern Ireland, it will come into effect late 2011.

Andy, I have been to Knock several times.  Its a lovely place.  I have heard mass there and been to the shrines.  Its just beautiful, you are lucky.  Last time I was there I stayed in the Belmont Hotel.  It was great.
Good Luck to you.
Helen
