How can you tell if a goat is pregnant?
« on: April 04, 2020, 09:25:47 pm »
I bought 2 female pet goats back in February this year. They are both friendly and very tame. But recently one of the 2 has gotten very temperamental and her teets are rather larger than usual and her belly is bigger than normal . I’ve not had goats before so unsure if she’s in season or if she’s pregnant ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First - check with the previous owner if they had an entire male (or a male kid - they are fertile pretty much from 3 months old) - if the answer is yes - I would presume the female is in kid
If no luck with previous owner, then normally I would think a scan at the vets, but not possible at the moment really. So just wait and see... feed normally (not too much though), make sure they have got exercise and read up on kidding/lambing.

What type/breed are they?
