I have found quite a few pods - is it worth keeping the seeds or are they hybrids which won't germinate? I have thrown all the empty packets away, so can't look on there

If the parents were F1 hybrids then perhaps the seeds will not germinate.  The way to find out is to collect them then try sprouting a few on wet blotting paper.  If none germinate then you can throw the rest out, if any do then you have successfully collected your own seed for next year.
