Restless Sow
« on: June 20, 2019, 12:05:59 pm »
Hi everyone. Our sow is really restless and has been for the last three days. We weaned the last two of her litter off her recently and she is due to be in oestrus today but she is nutty....squealing and chomping at the bars of the gate. Otherwise very healthy. We can't put a boar in with her - we are borrowing one, as I don't want a strange pig here while we are away next week and my parents are looking after the place. Can they get very very uncomfortable when in heat? She is normally pretty zen....and is quite used to being on her own from time to time - she does like company - but she is being pretty weird.....

I should add that she is in oestrus - puffy virginia and standing heat etc she normally goes all quiet and star gazy when she's fruity.....thanks all - Max

Yes, that is not unusual behaviour for a sow on heat or a sow just weaned who has got full teats.
