Which hedge trimmer for IH 454 tractor
« on: June 08, 2019, 07:41:02 pm »
I have a 1977 International Harvester 454 and will be looking to trim some hedges (later in year) that have got out of hand.  I'm really unsure what type will be best to use on my 454.

Open to any useful suggestions please.

Does your tractor have a cab?  If not do not get a flail mower.

I also have an IH 454 and I'm looking around for a flail mower to clear back a bit around the wild edges - they all look about the same sort of size to me on t'internet - the 454 only makes 50hp new from the factory, so is there a size not to be exceeded?

I'd heard flail-mowers were a bit wild - are the cab windows enough or would you need mesh across them?

(sorry for blatent thread hijacking, btw)

Thanks :)

Cab windows should do for light use.  Thats all we have for over a third of a mile of hedgerow, which gets done both sides so by the time we have done there will have been several miles travelled trimming.

To get the best results we find slow and steady to be best.  Do not try to take it all back in one pass otherwise bits fly everywhere and the hedge looks a mess.
