Ewe lambing no water bag
« on: April 02, 2019, 06:56:31 pm »
I had a ewe lamb this morning, she never produced a water bag and unfortunately the lamb had breached and was dead upon birth. I've now got a ewe acting exactly the same as she did, pawing the ground, panting and having contractions, again no water bag, this time I didn't risk waiting and went in after about 2 hours of this, when I went in I could feel the water bag but can't feel the lambs, should I persist more or should I wait for her to try and expel the bag? The bag seems to be in the way for me to feel any more? New to all this lambing so any help is appreciated thank you

I assume by now the ewe has lambed ?? you need to relax , all the symptoms you saw are normal .  The ewe with the breach lamb probably put out the water bag many hours before you saw it as it takes a very long time to push out a breach lamb , and when you  finally then see the bum its often to late to save the lamb

I had an ewe with exactly the same condition but as soon as I realised it was a breach birth with the first signs of its bum/tail I assisted straight away, both lamb and mum doing fine. :relief:

same answer as the others really, the first ewe without a bag was probably long gone before you realised she was in difficulty.

The second ewe was in the early stages of labour, I would of done the same after 2 hours of her showing signs of lambing, checked. As you could feel the bag but no lamb then I would of left well alone but kept an eye on, of nothing in another 2 hours then step in.
