The two ewe lambs I was interested in went fro £180 each; two gimmers from the same breeder went for £180 and £280 respectively. A white shearling ewe went for £1000 - yes, one thousand pounds!!! What recession? Dan would divorce me if I paid £1000 for a sheep. Good day for sellers, though.

Wish I still lived up north, I could do with getting them prices for a few just to cover winter food bills

i dont keep sheep but for £1000 i'd want one to come complete with its own oven!!!

No idea - I'm a novice Ryeland person. The 1000 pound one came from North Wales. There is a report on Sue Trimmings site www.colouredryelands.co.uk and the sale report will be available from H&H in due course.

These prices were not a reflection of those at Thainstone a couple of weeks ago where the top lamb was £120 guineas and top gimmer £140.

Those last prices are realistic but the first ones are madness! I was told by a local sheep farmer that there will be fewer gimmers around next year (have no idea why) and that I should probably keep my Ryeland lamb if I need to replace a ewe. However we have bought our ram Alfie and he is here to stay so that's not an option for me really. Hopefully the prices won't be crazy next year if we have to replace one.

Cinderhills why don't you swap your ram for a season. I only had 2 ewe lambs this year and from talking to people it seems the same with all keepers of ryelands around me
