Furminator...
« on: October 12, 2010, 07:59:25 pm »
Any one use a Furminator or similar brush / comb?   with 2 rows of teeth that have a spinning part

Have just bought a (fake copy!) one for Sheba the GSD... Wow!
combed out a puppy-sized amount of fluff in just 20 minutes, while she ate a bone.
And this is a dog who showers regularly (long story!) and usually gets very silly when being brushed.

Its been one of those things in my "must get that one day" list.  think of the wear-and-tear saving on the dyson, come moulting time!

I have always thought about one of those but they are so expensive.  I guess worth it if it does what they claim.  Good to know.

Always thought about it but they're so expensive and I didn't know if they would work.
So, we need to know how you get them for free! and/or what the fake type is called and where to get one. ;)

I wouldn't use them on my show dogs.  Far too harsh - tried one once and stopped just in time before the coat was ruined. Our breed isn't double coated so it would remove undercoat that is needed when working in water and thicket.  I use a hound slicker very gently for tangles and sticky willies.

I got a cat brush from my local store - lots & lots of 1/2 inch stainless steel wire bristles - this seems to work well on my GSD (1/2 a carrier bag of fluff in a short session - though I don't brush her as often as I probably should).

We sell the Mikki ones. We've tried both and found the Furminator more uncomfortable. I use the rake type of comb first and get to a point where I think that no more can come out then promptly get a black bin liner full out with the Mikki Moultmaster  ::) We do have a Malamute and two Leonbergers though  :)

One of the girls who works for us has a Furminator and had two teeth break too by the way.

You can say that again some mornings it looks like I have a carpet in the kitchen, I love Bruno to bits but sometimes the constant shedding drives me mad. ;D

He's lovely, just accept him as he is, like I do with my 'carpet' dog (that's what she feels like - GWP) and hoover up after her.
