dear all
a short note to say hi
I live in derbyshire and am new to caring for my animals...
I have  my 15 chickens :chook: now for about 2 months and my 4 pigs :pig: for only 2 weeks.
At the moment my chickens are laying well and i have managed to deal with one of our pigs (poppy) being constipated!!! ( i know people say that i shouldn't name them as they are for the freezer but got to call them something!!)
Am hoping to get some bees in the spring. I look forward to helping and being helped!!

Hi welcome from Brittany. I have chickens and ducks and the love of my life pigs.  Be warned pigs are extremely addictive.

Hi from the south of Scotland   We have sheep, poultry and vegetables.
I don't agree with the advice not to name animals which are headed for the pot.  One of the reasons I raise my own is because I hate to eat nameless slabs of meat from a supermarket shelf, but I do like to give the animals I eat some respect and the best life I can.  Being pragmatic, if your stock is all named, then when you eat them you can relate taste, tenderness or lack of it,  etc to the life that animal had.

Hello from North Wales!!

Carry on naming your pigs, at least you have something to call them by - my friends keep pigs to eat and have (rather tastelessly and certainly not originally) named theirs Bacon and Sausage ! Welcome to the site.
