Hello from Clackmannanshire
« on: August 03, 2008, 09:19:36 am »
I just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed the website.

Sadly, I don't have a small holding now as local land is too exnsive for me. I grew up on a smallholding in Aberdeenshire and miss the life, especially the goats.

Hi, where are you in Clackmannanshire?

If you need smallholding therapy, join our smallholdesr association - you don't have to be one at the moment. If you have the urge, you could maybe offer holiday cover?

I can certainly offer cover - in school holidays only as I am a teacher. I can still milk a goat ok  ;D
I used to help out a lot on other people's small holdings and really enjoyed it. I can also help with horses.
I do have a phobia of all kinds of poultry which can be a bit limiting though.

I am in Tillicoultry, although need to move nearer work in Falkirk, so looking to move over the Alloa/ Clackmannan direction.

Hm. The poultry phobia would certainly be a bit limiting.

Come and teach in Clackmannanshire - it's much nicer than Falkirk. Are you primary or secondary?

Thanks Stephen  :)

I am a dual qualified taecher. I did eight years in secondary before going into primary. I teach asn now and just love my job. I would like a job here. I did work in Clackmannanshire up until about 6 years ago, but got fed up of endless temp contracts. I am on my own with my daughter, so needed a more steady income.

The poultry thing is a bit limiting. Most people I helped out just penned the poultry in a byre or similar and I could do the rest of the livestock/garden etc. Willing to throw poultry feed - but at a distance  :o

My neighbour had that problem when I was in Aberdeenshire.  She was very good and kept it hidden from me for years as she looked after my birds if I was away.  I only found out by accident from her son who let it slip that he had gone in the poultry shed with her in case any of them flapped.  She's alot better because of teh contact and manaed to catch a blackbird that had strayed in through the patio doors.  Saturation therapy(flooding) might work :-)
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

I'm fine with poultry but I'm not keen on birds fluttering round my head. In a previous life, I was an HR manager and I had to visit a member fo staff at home - she had a loose parakeet in the room and I couldn't concentrate on the business in hand because of the bird flying around the room.
