How much space?
« on: May 22, 2010, 11:46:00 pm »
When we complete our land purchase we may have 590m2 of grass, with no real purpose laying free, as my lambs are living down at the farm in a paddock alongside horses to keep the grass down.
Would this space be suitable for keeping 2 pygmy goats on(any other breeds for that matter).

The cogs are whirring in my head with the thought of LAND and FREE, but i suppose everything depends on suitability and the gentle persuasion of parents  ;D  ;D  ;D

cheers, cameron

I am one of the old fashioned oldies, and work in feet and inches, and acres, not metres and hectares, so not sure how big your space is!!

But pygmy goats are very small, and I have seen a lot in smallish back gardens, and even big goats too.  They do adapt to whatever you have.  Although,  do remember that when they have eaten the grass, you will need to supplement them with either hay, or collect leaves  (which we do for our goats).  If the land is not too big, then pygmy goats would be the best choice.  Just remember you will have to use a bit of the land for a shelter/shed as goats are not keen on rain and like to go in to shelter.
