goslings - how long under lamp?
« on: May 17, 2010, 01:35:48 pm »
The three goslings hatched out last week end seem to be doing well under the lamp.

How long do they need this heat?

I've heard a suggestion that I should bring them some freshly cut grass soon. How soon could they cope with this?

As soon as they can I am planning to walk them out to an electric netting enclosure in the nearby paddock by day and returning them to the security of the barn at night. I have a fox proof loose box there with chicken netting up to the roof and over the gate.

Any suggestions appreciated.

My 2 are now 4 weeks old and lastnight was their first night outside. I have to say that as the weather is now a bit warmer they had the heat lamp only on for the first week and then the second week only when required. I introduced them to the outside world at about a week old and they grazed quite happily by themselves.

I've goslings - one 3 weeks old and the other 5 days. The older one has been out since the weekend with the young chickens in the day and in his box at night. The young one is in the box all day and no light as it is quite warm in the shed. Both are under a lowish light at the moment as it is still quite nippy at night. they both eat grass as well.
