So last weekend we cut for haylage, 250 bales, excluding the field with ragwort in which we have just cut and will get rid of. That is quite a few more bales up than last year. Hay is all good and we're stacking it up at the farm now, should be a good winter. Certainly will need it all if I am importing some more animals later on in the year. How about everyone else? How has it gone for you all?

Well done always good to get it in. Being the very dry east ours was in early July. Yield a lot better than last year but had better. Anyway good enough that we will be sitting comfortably through the winter. It has been very very dry here so I have been feeding some of last year's to the goats and sheep but finally have some rain today. It's interesting to see the hay harvest moving up North and West now given we have been parched for some 6 weeks.

This is my first time making hay and the contractor cut it Monday morning, turned it Wednesday afternoon and again at lunchtime today but said that it wasn't quite dry enough to bale. We're forecast rain all weekend and on and off all of next week but he has said that once the weather improves and it all dries out it will still be fine to bale.
