The seller completes the movement licence and gives you the top two copies. You complete the bottom part when you get home and send off the top copy and keep the other one.

I staple mine to my flock register.

You'll also need a medicine book. I just keep a spreadsheet now but you can buy them from most agrimerchants.

If it's a paper form you'll need to fill in:  Section 1 - the full postal address of destination and make sure the rest of the boxes are filled in by the seller, especially the identification numbers box (top right); Section 2 - Transport Details - needs your vehicle registration number, signature telephone number and Transporter's Authorisation Number (where journey is over 65KM) - assuming you have a licence or the driver does.  The Departure Location keeps the yellow copy of this form and gives you the white, pink and blue copies.  Fill in Section 3 when you get home and the directions on where to send the white copy are on the bottom right of the form.

^ Just beware that though the general protocols are the same in Scotland and England, the books are a bit different. In Scotland, the seller keeps the pink copy, the buyer keeps the yellow copy, and the white one is sent off to the records office. England is similar, but the colours are different for example.

The other paperwork is your CPH (holding) number, and DEFRA flock number. Do you already have these?

Amazon do flock books and medicine books. I don't particularly like the lay out of the latter but at least it ensures you have the right records. For the movement license it is also possible to print them from the defra web site and photo copy one to keep and either confirm the movement online (which I tend to do when collecting sheep) or post the original. So your seller may give you hand filled forms from the old multi colour pads or a computer print out, or even a computer print out that has been completed by hand. All are legal.

Pigs have to be on line but sheep can still be either. Rumour has it Defra believe shepherds are less computer savvy.  Ha ha. Actually I think it is was because more live off in rubbish broadband locations like Cambridgeshire

We still do sheep paper movements, but the cattle are all online via BCMS.

When buying pedigrees (ryelands) what paper work should I expect to receive

Should I get certificates of registration

I understand I need to join the flock book

The guy seems genuine and does business with my pals father
