Guinea fowl
« on: July 05, 2016, 09:39:04 pm »
I acquired three guinea fowl keets two weeks ago ( they will be 6 weeks now) . It took me by surprise how flighty they are and one flew out through the coop door in a flash , never to be seen again I suspect. Does anyone have any tips on keeping them nearby when I finally allow them out and at what age they s hould be let out?  Thanks.

Only ones I have ever known have been kept truly free range and only stay on the farm due to

A) size of the farm - it was massive.
B) feed being available when they were feeling lazy.

You couldn't get close to them and they had formed a self sustaining population.

thanks. They will have to be free range as  will need the coop for my turkey poults for shelter at night. There is always feed about  so I guess I'll just have to take the plunge and let them out when the  turkeys arrive in August.  :fc: :fc: :fc:

When my keets came off heat I put them in an old pig pen with a wired front and left them there for three months before letting them out. They always came back there to roost at night and I also trained them to come to call.
