Saturday 7th May
British Hen Welfare Trust hen re-homing day
We have hens available at ST ANDREWS & our new collection point at PERTH
 

 
Do you have room in your coop for a few hard working girls?
We hope to save 600 hens. The girls are still laying and looking forward to joining your family. We would like to ensure that every hen has a home to go to – can you help? These are ex colony caged hens around 18 months old. If you can spread the word please we will be able to save these lovely hens. We do require a donation on the day please.
We are also looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our teams at both venues – if you feel you would like to get involved and enjoy the ultimate feel-good factor please contact us for more details.

Its a pity that I am too far away as i would take some, as I have ex batts myself and still laying well after 5 years!

 I too would feel like it was a risk to my birds (unvaccinated).  It was three ex bats that got my family started in the 90's; 50p each - Went back the next month for more and then over the years came the breeds, books, driving round the country for new stock, incubators, etc! (What a great hobby we have ;) ). Not a bad place to start, plenty of eggs!

Did I see elsewhere there was a date for a Friockheim, Angus rehoming day? Are you involved in that too, and I can get child care I could volunteer?

Agree, they don't seem to mention anywhere about mixing peoples' existing unvaccinated birds with vaccinated ex commercial birds. For this reason now I only buy vaccinated pullets as I have a few commercial hens too, but I guess theres a lot of people that don't realise the risk.
