My new Acer laptop came with Win 8.1, with the option to upgrade to 10, which I did straightaway because I'd heard so many bad reports about it.  A pop up appeared on my two year old desktop so I tried to download Windows 10 on there, but it tells me my processor isn't compatible so it's still on Win 7

Having both I prefer 7.  I find Win 10 difficult to operate, I might have got used to it if both were on it I suppose.
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

Typing to you all on a computer that is totally free of Microsoft stuff .
I only load what I want from free open source source sites .

MS 10 took off all my drivers for three cameras , a webcam , two printers , a tablet and my scanner . HP said that there were not being serviced  for the new MS10 as they are old..

I'm almost fully advert free MS 10 drove me potty at first ..  I spent a lot of time trying to remove them & set the system to reject them that I started to look into alternativces.  Like Pk says  as son as you get an MS10 update from MS they reset you machine  so you get the ads .
Now I understand that with Ubuntu set correctly there is no trace on me for most of my Internet use .

What is this strange beast .... " Ubuntu 14.4 of course.
It took a while to get it going for I'd forgotten how things were nearly 20 years ago & I have a current memory  problem .

It has a Word , Publisher & eXcel type system in it as the basic Ubuntu down load .
I had to get advice about locating the drivers for web cam & printers etc but they are there totally FOC .

Learning the Calc ( eXcel thing ) has been interesting & challenging but I'm really happy withti .

Several very helpful Internet friends have given me advice how to get thing up & running   & as a result I'll never ever be going back to Microsoft .
Strong belief , triggers the mind to find the way ... Dyslexia just makes it that bit more amusing & interesting
