I was just reading the "who shall I vote for" post when I wondered what people thought about people who live abroad permanently and who still can vote in our elections. They are in principal deciding who will run our country and all that goes with it, without having to suffer the consequences as we do. What do you think?

Are people who live permanently abroad entitled to vote? Are there "degrees" of ex patriation?

I work abroad but i am still Uk resident so I can vote

Don't know if that is something new, but my Mum and Dad never voted in British elections once they moved over to Australia.

My dad lives in Australia and never plans on returning but he can still vote by post or proxy.  This year we'll be doing it by proxy so I actually get two votes!  I keep telling people my opinion is twice as important as theirs

In my opinion you should only be able to vote if you live for more than 50% of your time in the UK, something like the tax system - ie you only pay tax here if your onshore for 50%+ of the time.
