Replacement tags: Same hole or new one?
« on: November 15, 2015, 05:31:53 pm »
As per the title really. I need to replace a couple of lost ear tags. The ears have not been torn, so there's still a hole evident, surrounded by scar tissue.

Should I re-tag in the existing hole, or make a new one?

Thanks!

Always use the existing hole if it's usable.

Same hole unless it's infected or torn.

In which case wait until it is no longer infected

Thanks All,  I'd thought that would be the case but it's always nice to have a second opinion!

You know those spring toggles you get for fixing bolts through plasterboard?  The ones where the arms fold back to allow the bolt through, but then when through the hole spring out and stop it from ever coming out again?

I always split the tags as soon as I put them in, so they're no longer a ring that can (and so frequently does) get caught in things and torn out.  I think it helps a bit.
