I use Battle brand mite killer in the hut, especially in the crevices , ends of perches etc. On the chucks and in the nest boxes I use a mite and louse powder. Every time you strip out the hut, which I do every week you redo the Battle powder in the hut and louse powder in the nest boxes. The chooks get as per instructions on the packet.
A good old fashioned creosote is recomended by some folk for real infestations but the chooks need somewhere else to live while the stuff is potent. Get them before they emerge in force.

We had a wee infestation last autumn, so after cleaning out and disinfecting the coop, I made up a slurry (runny mud) of Hemexsan D.E. powder and water, and painted it onto the walls and floor, and into all the nooks and crannies I could reach. The 'mud' then dried to leave a dusty residue, which is still there several months later.  Anyhow, no problems since, so could be worth a try??

not sure about the hut but i got some drops off the vet its actually for racing pigeons cant think of what its called but he just told me to double dose. i dont know if it works its way into the hut and kills them all or just kills the ones on the bird but it worked and haven't had a problem since.
i can find out the name of it if you want to give it a go.

GENUINE creasote, not the diy stuff, you can only get it from a farm supply outlet in 20 ltr drums, but you will have it for years and it does a lot... or a blow torch. i got a big one that goes on a gas bottle throws out a 2 foot flame.they are cheap to buy, just flash it over everthing (not the birds) scorch the wood a bit and burn the bedding in the hut, (have a running hose at hand). also use tree branches as perches and burn them often and replace with new.

I only have 2 houses to clean, Harry (that does not include my own, lol), so I would only use a £ 10 household sized cleaner with a long cable... :&>

i cant believe a £20 steamer would do a coup and kill the bliters, its takes ages to do our shower tiling.. TORCH THE BUGGERS. All my perches are tree branches giving various diametres for the bird and then burnt.
