Hi all

I have took the lease of an abandoned farm, i have initially 8 acres of really good grazing and there is 100 acres of wood that was planted on grazing leaving huge areas of grass.

How would i obtain a land holding number
and what breed of sheep would sell easy and thrive on good grass and woodland.

Also what defines a smallholder to say a crofter is there a number of ewes that is the threshold?...

You don't say what part of the country you are in.  Crofters are defined by law and crofts are in the main in the Highlands of Scotland. 

Otherwise you have a smallholding.  I would think the woodlands may be of use for pigs and poultry, rather than sheep, although there may be some good doers that would thrive on it.

I'm surprised you managed to get the land if it has such good grazing - lucky man!
