   Have just bought a Cox 5ml Sterivax pack for the next time I do my Heptavac P jabs as I've had a couple that have ended up with abscesses in the past.

The person who sold me it said I could adjust it to do 2ml jabs - is this correct? (don't want to open it in case this isn't the case and I want to take it back)

Just noticed that it comes with 1" needles - I normally use 1/2" needles for vaccinations  - when you use this system is there only a certain amount of the needle exposed through the disinfecting thingy or does it retract such that you have 1" of needle coming through? (wouldn't like that!)

It says 'semi-disposable' - once I've used it for Heptavac can I just flush it through with soapy water and rinse and then use it for something else (thinking about doing Toxovax later)

Separate but related question - where do you get the neat bottle holder thingy to put round your neck that I've seen on you tube?

Yes it can do 2ml, just check it dispenses 2ml before connecting up your Heptavac. 

When you push it against the animal, the front part collapses into the spring part and exposes about 1cm (-sh) of needle.

I wash and disinfect mine, store cleanly and reuse, albeit still only for Heptavac (no requirement for anything else, thankfully).

As for the holder thingy, it sounds like you've got the one with a long tube.  I've moved to one where the bottle is mounted on the injector but still has the sterivax part.  The one with the long tube I used to put the bottle in the chest pocket of a fisherman's jacket.  So long as it's upside down, it will be fine.  I suspect the bottle holder comes with the much larger bottle sizes.

Personally I found the long tube a hindrance, especialy with horned sheep, and it holds too much of the vaccine if only doing a few.  I'd steered clear of the ones with the bottle on the injector thinking that I'd knock the bottle off, but not had any problems and much prefer them.  I keep my old tube one as a spare.

Thanks Badger Nadgers (lovin the name!) - really helpful. Good to know that the exposed needle is limited -  I do already have a vaccination 'gun' that the bottle mounts on to - can't remember the make - it's a well known make (plastic and purple).    Do you know what make/models can utilise the system? 

Think you're right re the bottle size come to think of it - did look like a bigger bottle in the youtube video.   I'm only using a 50 ml bottle so will only need a jacket with a wee pocket lol.  Can the tube be shortened a bit?   

Will give it a go and see how I get on.  Really appreciate your advice.
