Hello all. We had our first pygmy goat kid, one of two girls (the other died which is so sad). She is the cutest thing I have ever seen! We have herand her mum and another girl waiting to kid in our barn, sectioned off from the new lambs with thir mums, all born last week. I am turning the lambs/sheep out during the day but haven't the goats. I don't know how long the secong goat will be before she gives birth. No signs yet and they were with billy for 6 weeks. The ewes have all been wormed post birth and turned out onto fresh grass. I would like to put the goats out for a bit too today but haven't wormed first mum yet as she is sharing pen with other pregnant goat. And don't want to introduce worm (if there are any) to the new sheep paddock. Kid is so tiny she'll get thru fencing but she's going where she likes in the barn and always comes back to mum. What are your thoughts?  Do I just keep them in until 2nd mum has birthed? And both mums had heptavac booster 4 weeks ago. Does kid need first vaccine at 3 weeks like the lambs? Can't find much info on internet and my pygmy book doesn't tell me!

As far as the heptovac goes, you would be better using lambivac on goats, they don't require all the extra cover that hep: gives. Lambivac is recommended by the goat vet: society.
When it comes to turnout I think your only concern would be if the kid gets through your fence, what is on the other side is ditches etc. Personally I would wait for the other goat to kid, although she would kid outside OK with tiny kids they're much more at risk from predators. Hope all goes well, by the way, the goats are more at risk from the sheep worm burden than the sheep are as they do not build up a resistance. :sunshine:
