One ewe left to lamb... What do I do with her?
« on: April 10, 2015, 11:14:54 pm »
As above, I have one ewe left to lamb, I have them under camera until they lamb then they are turned out when the lambs are 48 hours old.
I kept the last ewe in with her lambs longer than normal to keep the last ewe company but still the ewe is holding on.
Do I leave the ewe on her own in the barn or turn her out with the others? I don't like leaving them to lamb unaided just in case...

You can't keep her on her own.

Could you put her out with the others during the day, and bring her and a pal (with her lambs, of course) in overnight?

I'm assuming you've no geld ewes or untupped hoggs you can put in to keep her company?

Mine really dont mind being on their own especially when they are heavily pregnant and often prefer to lamb when all the others have gone out to play. You know your sheep but a compromise might be a pen in the field with the others or let the others into a pen off the lambing shed so she can see them?

Thanks, she stayed on her own over night and really didn't seem to mind, she could see the others in the field through the barn gate. I turned her out the next day and she lambed in the field. Problem solved!
