Chickens and woodchip
« on: February 20, 2015, 04:01:52 pm »
We've had a few tonnes of woodchip dumped in an area where we'd like to put chickens. It's in quite a heap at the moment but been sat a while so plenty of worms in if, I would have thought. Would the chickens be safe scratching around in it or should we move it first?

Depends if it is from treated wood or not, usually it is not. Not sure it will have worms in it, but the hens will flatten it in no time... and you will have it all over your garden.

Woodchip does take a few years to rot down.
