Shredded paper as bedding
« on: January 23, 2010, 02:02:53 am »
Anyone got any views on shredded paper from an office as bedding instead of, or in conjunction with straw?

Used to use it for the horses.  It tends to fly away when moving it to the compost heap

Great for the raised beds and to add bulk to the compost heap :)

Can't ask for better than something free that serves two purposes! We  hope to put the veg garden back in the spring!!

Depending how wet is gets,
we use it in chooks nesting boxes, pigs and rabbits 9cos they have a special 'toilet' area) but only as a topper on wood shavings in the goat shed as they wee on it and it clumps together and is a pain to scape up!
Good as compost, we encourage junk mail and I some from work (as long as I know there's no staples in it...)

I have a small household shredder for all my own sensitive stuff - old bank statements, letters etc.  I used the shreddings for my pups with no ill effects that I know of.  The way this brat tries to ambush his poor long suffering mother I doubt there are any!
