Mixed weekends...

Hi all

Pigs certainly keep you on your toes! Valentines day saw the arrival of 16 weaners from one of our sows who has only ever had 8-9 in her last four litters! At 11pm she had 14 (which I was already amazed by) and the afterbirth, so we packed up and headed to bed. Went down Sunday morning, had a quick count, and she'd popped another two out! Mum and babies are all doing fantastic  ;D :pig:

Yesterday morning my best breeding boar was looking a little lazy so kept checking on him and we agreed if he wasn't perking up then we would call the vet out in the afternoon. At 11am he came out of his shed into the field, promptly laid down, and passed away  :'( Think we're all in shock, there were no warnings other than he was lethargic yesterday morning. Unfortunately he's only covered our unregistered sows, and he was the last of that pedigree bloodline so that's another strain of Large White that has left us :(

Feel very sad today, but at least we have some of his young to keep us busy!

If it's sheep's mission in life to die then it's pig's to keep you on your toes.  Bad luck on the boar.

Sad to hear your news about the boar but great news re the piglets.
I think Deerpark do Large White AI so worth a look for your pedigree sows, the LW need boosting in numbers.
